About activate-linux
activate-linux recreates the "Activate Windows" watermark that unactivated copies of Windows show in the corner of the screen, but for a Linux desktop. It draws a small always-on-top text overlay that stays in place while you work.
It began on Linux and has since been backported to Windows. The repository includes a Wayland layer-shell protocol file, a systemd service, an example configuration file, a man page, an RPM spec and a Nix flake, so it can be packaged and started automatically.
Strengths
- Faithful imitation of the Windows activation watermark
- Configurable through command-line arguments and a config file
- Packaging files for systemd, RPM and Nix included
Limitations
- A novelty with no practical function
- No prebuilt releases published in the repository
