About aerc

aerc composes email in an embedded terminal running your editor, tmux-style, so you can check incoming mail and read other threads while writing a reply. It renders HTML mail through an interactive terminal browser, highlights patch diffs, and lets you browse a message in an embedded less session.

Its git integration is unusual and deliberate: it is built for the mailing-list patch workflow, and can open a tab with a shell in a nearby repository so you can apply and test a patch without leaving the client. It supports IMAP, Maildir, Notmuch, Mbox and JMAP backends with asynchronous IMAP and JMAP so a flaky network never locks the interface, and it downloads only what it needs.
