About Basilisk
Basilisk is built on the Goanna engine and retains the classic XUL and XPCOM extension model that Firefox dropped, along with NPAPI support, so older add-ons keep working. It is maintained as a development testbed for the Unified XUL Platform alongside Pale Moon.
Strengths
- Runs classic XUL extensions that no current browser supports
- Independent of Chromium and of current Firefox
Limitations
- Small development team, so security fixes and web compatibility lag
- Many modern sites do not work correctly
