About BookStack
BookStack stores documentation in a fixed hierarchy of shelves, books, chapters and pages, which removes most of the structure decisions a blank wiki forces on you. It has WYSIWYG and Markdown editors, full-text search, page revisions, per-item permissions and LDAP, SAML and OIDC authentication.
Strengths
- Fixed hierarchy makes large documentation sets easy to navigate
- Granular permissions plus LDAP, SAML and OIDC sign-in
Limitations
- PHP, MySQL and a web server are required; there is no single-binary option
- The rigid structure gets in the way if you want a free-form wiki
