About Bottlerocket
Bottlerocket is a Linux-based operating system built by Amazon Web Services for running containers. It includes only the software needed to run containers, and applies configuration settings consistently as nodes are upgraded or replaced.
Updates are applied in a single step and can be rolled back, rather than package by package as on a general-purpose system. It is available at no cost as an Amazon Machine Image for EC2, and its open development model lets others produce custom builds, for example for other orchestrators.
Strengths
- Single-step updates that can be rolled back
- Only the software required to run containers
- Available at no cost as an EC2 AMI
- Open development allows custom builds
Limitations
