About ClearURLs

ClearURLs removes tracking elements such as utm and fbclid parameters from URLs before a request is made, blocks some hyperlink auditing and skips redirect trackers, using a community-maintained rules file. Cleaned links can also be copied for sharing.

Strengths

  • Cleans links before the request, so the tracker never sees the click
  • Community rule set covers a large number of known parameters

Limitations

  • A few sites need parameters it removes and must be excepted
  • Manifest V3 has constrained what it can do in Chromium browsers
