About DietPi

DietPi is a lightweight Debian image for single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi, Odroid and PINE64. It keeps CPU and memory use low and sets up RAM logging by default.

Its DietPi-Software tool installs popular software ready to run and configured for the device, replacing long setup guides. Configuration uses simple Whiptail menus. The project also publishes community benchmark results comparing CPU and IO performance across devices.

Strengths

  • Low CPU and RAM footprint
  • One-step installs of popular software
  • Simple menu-based configuration
  • Published benchmarks for many boards

Limitations

  • Menu-driven setup is still text-based
  • Aimed at small devices rather than desktops
