About Fastfetch

Fastfetch is the successor to neofetch, which was archived. It prints the system summary people put in screenshots: distribution, kernel, uptime, shell, desktop environment, theme, CPU, GPU, memory and disk, next to an ASCII or image logo.

The difference from neofetch is that it is written in C rather than bash, so it runs in milliseconds rather than a noticeable pause, and it is far more configurable: modules can be added, removed and reordered through a JSON configuration file.

It supports Linux, macOS, Windows 8.1 and later, Android, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NetBSD, DragonFly, Haiku and SunOS, though the project notes it is only actively tested on x86-64 and aarch64. One caution: several distributions package outdated versions, and the project supports only the latest.

Strengths

  • Written in C, so it completes in milliseconds where neofetch took a noticeable pause
  • Highly configurable through JSON: add, remove and reorder modules freely
  • Runs on Linux, macOS, Windows, Android, the BSDs, Haiku and SunOS
  • The maintained successor to the archived neofetch

Limitations

  • Several distributions package outdated versions, which the project does not support
  • Only actively tested on x86-64 and aarch64
  • Purely informational; it displays and does nothing else
  • Getting a custom configuration right takes some fiddling
