About Feeds Fun

Feeds Fun is a news reader that automatically assigns tags to feed entries, with help from language models, and lets you write rules that give scores to tags. Entries are then sorted by score so the items you care about rise to the top and the rest can be skipped.

It can be self-hosted, with a Docker Compose setup in the repository, or used as a hosted service. It suits readers with many feeds who want filtering based on their own criteria rather than a platform's algorithm.

Strengths

  • Automatic tagging of feed entries
  • User-defined scoring rules for sorting news
  • Self-hostable with Docker Compose

Limitations

  • Tagging relies on language models
  • More setup than a simple feed reader

Compare all

Software that can replace Feeds Fun for an important use case, and what changes if you switch.

  • Tiny Tiny RSS

Long-running self-hosted news aggregator with plugins and filters.

Tiny Tiny RSS offers self-hosted filtering and scoring rules without relying on language models, and needs PHP with PostgreSQL or MySQL, distributed Docker-first.

  • NewsBlur

Open-source cloud RSS reader that learns what you like.

NewsBlur trains on tags, authors and phrases to reduce noise, is open source with a hosted freemium service, and offers Android and iOS apps.

  • Inoreader

Power-user cloud RSS reader with rules, filters and full-text search.

Inoreader provides rules, filters and full-text search as a hosted closed-source service with mobile apps, with rules and search requiring a paid tier.

  • FreshRSS

A self-hosted feed reader that is light enough to run on a cheap shared host and still handles hundreds of feeds.

FreshRSS is a lighter self-hosted reader under AGPL-3.0 that works with existing mobile apps through its API, but has no tag-based scoring rules.

  • Feedly

Cloud RSS reader with apps, newsletters and AI topic filtering.

Feedly offers AI topic filtering in a hosted closed-source service with mobile apps, but the AI filtering requires its more expensive paid tiers.

  • Miniflux

A deliberately minimal feed reader: one Go binary, a PostgreSQL database, and no options you do not need.

Miniflux is a minimal self-hosted Go reader with PostgreSQL, full-text search and tracker stripping, but drops automatic tagging and custom scoring altogether.
