About Fluent Reader
Fluent Reader reads feeds either entirely locally, with nothing to sign up for, or synced with a service: Inoreader, Feedbin, The Old Reader, BazQux, or anything self-hosted that speaks the Fever or Google Reader API. That flexibility is the main reason to pick it.
It reads the full content in a built-in article view or loads the original webpage, searches articles with regular expressions or filters by read status, groups subscriptions into folders, has single-key keyboard shortcuts, and imports and exports OPML with full data backup and restore.
The feature worth noting is the rules engine: regular expression rules that hide, mark as read or star articles automatically as they arrive, which is how you keep a noisy feed without reading all of it. It fetches in the background and sends push notifications.
Strengths
- Works fully locally, or syncs with Inoreader, Feedbin, Fever and Google Reader API services
- Regular expression rules that hide, mark read or star articles automatically as they arrive
- OPML import and export plus full application data backup and restore
- Background fetching with push notifications, and single-key keyboard shortcuts
Limitations
- Electron, so it is heavy for a feed reader
- The Microsoft Store version is recommended for auto-update; GitHub builds update manually
- Support for more RSS services is described as under fundraising
- The mobile version is a separate project
