About FolderTimeUpdate

FolderTimeUpdate scans a base folder and updates the modified time of each subfolder to match the newest file inside it. Other modes use the newest created time or the oldest modified or created time. This is useful after restoring a backup that did not preserve folder dates.

A simulation mode shows the planned changes without applying them. You can exclude folders from scanning or updating, skip files by wildcard and limit the subfolder depth. It can run from the command line and from the Explorer context menu, and works on Windows 2000 through Windows 11 in 32-bit and 64-bit builds.

Strengths

  • Simulation mode previews changes before applying them
  • Several update modes based on newest or oldest file times
  • Exclusion lists and depth range control
  • Command-line use with log files

Limitations

  • Changes folder timestamps in bulk, so a mistaken run alters many folders
  • Windows only
