About fwupd
fwupd is a daemon that lets desktop software update the firmware of devices in the local machine. It gets metadata and updates from the Linux Vendor Firmware Service, where hardware vendors upload firmware, and is used by all major Linux distributions through clients such as fwupdmgr and GNOME Software.
It is designed for desktops but also works on phones, tablets and servers. Plugins add support for many update protocols. Both fwupd and the LVFS are open source with contributors from many companies.
