About GNU ddrescue
GNU ddrescue copies raw blocks of storage, such as disk sectors, from one device or file to another. It is built for recovery from damaged media: when it hits read errors, it scrapes the good sectors out of partially readable blocks so that as little data as possible is lost.
It works with hard drives, DVDs, CDs and other storage media. This suits anyone trying to save data from a dying drive before it fails completely, or making an image of damaged media to work on safely.
