About GPSBabel
GPSBabel moves waypoint, track and route data between hundreds of GPS receivers and programs, including Garmin and Magellan devices, Google Earth and Basecamp. It also offers manipulation tools such as removing duplicate points and simplifying tracks, and it is often used for server-side processing or as the backend for other tools.
It handles GPS data only, not the maps themselves. It runs on Windows 10 and 11, macOS, Linux and other POSIX systems such as FreeBSD, and has been in development since 2001.
Strengths
- Supports hundreds of GPS receivers and programs
- Filtering and track simplification tools
- Usable as a backend for scripts and other tools
- Long-established project dating back to 2001
Limitations
- Does not convert or transfer maps
- Aimed more at conversion than visual editing
