About Stack

Stack is a command-line tool for building Haskell projects. It installs the Glasgow Haskell Compiler automatically, fetches the packages a project needs, and builds, tests and benchmarks the project. It can also start GHC interactively.

It supports Linux, macOS and Windows and can be installed directly or through GHCup. The documentation includes a tutorial covering project configuration, multi-package projects and build targets. Expect about 5 GB of disk space for one GHC version.

Strengths

  • Installs the right GHC version automatically
  • Handles dependencies, building, testing and benchmarking
  • Works on Linux, macOS and Windows
  • Thorough tutorial and reference documentation

Limitations

  • Needs about 5 GB of disk space per GHC version
  • Command line only
