About htop
htop shows processes as a scrollable, colour-coded list with per-core load meters, memory and swap bars, and lets you search, filter, sort, renice and kill processes without typing a PID. It reads as a friendlier replacement for top and runs over SSH as comfortably as locally.
Strengths
- Kill, renice and filter processes interactively without typing PIDs
- Per-core meters and tree view make load easy to read at a glance
Limitations
- Terminal only, with no historical graphing
- Some counters differ per platform outside Linux
