IPython replaces the standard Python prompt with a shell built for interactive work. Tab completion is powered by Jedi, objects can be inspected with ? and ?? to show docstrings and source, and history persists across sessions with search.
Magic commands such as %timeit, %debug and %run handle profiling, debugging and running scripts, and shell commands run directly with !. IPython also provides the Jupyter kernel used by Jupyter Notebook and JupyterLab. It suits data scientists, developers, educators and system administrators.
