About Jellyfin Media Player
The Jellyfin web interface works in any browser, but a browser is a poor video player: it cannot do audio passthrough for surround formats, and its codec support is limited, so the server ends up transcoding. Jellyfin Media Player wraps the same web interface in Qt WebEngine but hands playback to libmpv.
That means hardware decoding, audio passthrough to a receiver, and direct play of formats a browser would refuse, which is the difference between your server idling and it pinning every core. You can drop an `mpv.conf` alongside the configuration to tune mpv directly.
The last tagged release is from March 2025, with development builds from master published between releases.
