About JSONLint

JSONLint is a web editor for checking JSON. You can paste or type JSON, or enter a URL for it to fetch. It then reports syntax errors or reformats the input into readable, indented JSON.

It is handy for debugging API responses, config files and JSON-LD structured data. A separate command-line version, zaach/jsonlint on npm, is a JavaScript port of the service. Its repository has had no activity since 2022, so the website is the actively maintained option.

Strengths

  • Validates and pretty-prints in one step
  • Accepts pasted JSON or a URL
  • Clear syntax error reporting

Limitations

  • Syntax checking only on the website, no schema validation
  • The related CLI package has not been updated since 2022
