About Kicksecure
Kicksecure is a security-hardened Debian-based desktop system from the Whonix developers, applying kernel hardening, boot parameter changes, restricted permissions, an AppArmor profile set and a hardened memory allocator by default. It can be installed fresh or converted from an existing Debian system.
Strengths
- Extensive hardening applied by default rather than left as an exercise
- An existing Debian install can be converted rather than reinstalled
Limitations
- Hardening breaks some software and needs exceptions
- Not an anonymity system; that is what Whonix adds on top
