About Kimai

Kimai records time spent on customers and projects and turns it into timesheets, reports, exports and invoices. It handles users and teams, offers a dashboard, supports SAML login and exposes a REST API, with a plugin marketplace for extra features such as a customer portal.

You can install it on your own server with Docker or manually under the AGPL 3 licence, keeping full control of the data, or use Kimai Cloud, a managed version hosted in the EU with automatic updates and backups.

Strengths

  • Self-hosting with Docker or a manual install
  • Invoices, exports and reporting built in
  • Teams, SAML login and a REST API
  • Plugin marketplace for extra features

Limitations

  • Self-hosting means running and updating a server yourself
  • Self-hosted installs get community support only
