About Kodachi

Kodachi OS is a Debian 13 distribution with the Xfce desktop, built for privacy. It can route traffic through Tor or a VPN with DNSCrypt, and offers a kill switch, several routing modes, panic actions, a live security dashboard and an offline-first local AI assistant.

The stable release is Kodachi OS 9, with a version 10 beta available for testing. Downloads are signed and the project asks users to verify hashes and signatures before installing. It is free for personal use with a premium upgrade, and parts are source-available under its own KSAN-1.1 license.

Strengths

  • Tor, VPN and DNSCrypt routing built in
  • Kill switch and panic actions
  • Signed downloads with verification instructions

Limitations

  • Only partly source-available, not open source
  • Maintained largely by a single developer
