About LibreSpeed

LibreSpeed measures download, upload, ping and jitter from the browser using only XHR, and can be self-hosted on PHP, Go, Rust or Node so the test runs against your own server rather than a third party. A command-line client exists too.

Strengths

  • Self-hosted, so the test measures your own path rather than a public server
  • No plugins or heavy dependencies; it is plain JavaScript

Limitations

  • Results depend entirely on where you host the server
  • Fewer analytics than commercial speed test services
