Linux Reader lets Windows open drives and partitions formatted with file systems that Windows cannot read on its own, including Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, UFS, HFS, ReiserFS and APFS, and copy files out of them. Access to the source drive is read-only, and it bypasses file security policies so any file on the disk can be reached.
The core program is freeware with no ads or trial limits. Linux Reader Pro adds more file systems, SSH remote access, virtual drives and FTP export. Write access needs the separate Linux Writer tool.
Strengths
- Reads Ext, UFS, HFS, ReiserFS and APFS from Windows
- Read-only access avoids damaging the source drive
- Free edition has no ads, trial mode or restrictions
Limitations
- Windows only
- No write access; that needs the separate Linux Writer
- SSH access, virtual drives and FTP export require the paid Pro edition
