About LlamaFactory
LlamaFactory (formerly LLaMA-Factory) brings fine-tuning for many open language and vision-language models under one tool. You can configure and launch training runs from a browser interface or from the command line, on your own hardware.
It comes from a paper presented at ACL 2024 and has a large user community. It suits developers and researchers who want to adapt an open model to their own data without writing a training pipeline from scratch.
Strengths
- Supports over 100 language and vision-language models
- Both a web interface and a command line
- Runs on your own hardware
- Large and active community
Limitations
- Fine-tuning needs a capable GPU
- Assumes familiarity with model training concepts

Unsloth also runs and fine-tunes models locally with a UI and CLI, adds diffusion models and GGUF or MLX formats, and has macOS support, but its license is not stated.
Axolotl
A command-line tool for fine-tuning language models from YAML configuration files.
Axolotl defines fine-tuning runs in YAML configuration files from the command line, with Docker images and DeepSpeed configs, but has no web interface and targets Linux.
MLX LM
A Python package and command-line tool for running and fine-tuning language models on Apple silicon.
MLX LM fine-tunes and quantizes models on Apple silicon Macs from Python or the terminal, dropping the web UI and Windows or Linux support, with an unconfirmed license.
