Lua Language Server uses the Language Server Protocol to give code editors proper Lua support. It provides diagnostics for syntax and type errors, autocompletion, hover details for signatures, a built-in formatter, and a dynamic type system designed around Lua.
It supports about 25 annotations for parameters, returns and classes, community definition files for popular libraries and APIs, custom plugins, and documentation generation in Markdown and JSON. Visual Studio Code users install the sumneko.lua extension, and it also works with Neovim's built-in LSP client.
