About Lynx
Lynx renders pages as plain text in a terminal, following links with the keyboard and supporting forms, cookies, SSL and proxies. It has been maintained since 1992 and remains the standard way to read the web from a server console or a screen reader-friendly text environment.
Strengths
- Works on any terminal, including a bare SSH session with no graphics
- Extremely low bandwidth and resource use
Limitations
- No JavaScript, CSS or images, so most modern sites are unusable
- Keyboard-driven interface with its own conventions to learn
