About Mailvelope
Mailvelope adds an OpenPGP layer inside Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other webmail interfaces, encrypting and decrypting messages in the browser so the provider never sees the plaintext. Keys are generated and stored locally, with optional key server lookup.
Strengths
- Works inside existing webmail rather than requiring a desktop mail client
- Keys stay in the browser under your control
Limitations
- Only supports a defined list of webmail sites
- Browser-based key storage is weaker than a dedicated client or smartcard
