About MakeMKV
MakeMKV reads a disc and writes the video, audio, subtitle and chapter streams into an MKV file without re-encoding, so the result is bit-identical to the disc and takes a few minutes rather than hours. It handles DVD, Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray, and can also act as a streaming server for the disc in the drive.
DVD conversion is free permanently. Blu-ray support is in a perpetual beta which works for free with a beta key the developer republishes on the forum every couple of months; a paid licence removes that step. Check the law where you live before ripping a disc, even one you bought.
