Markmap reads a Markdown document and draws its heading and list structure as an interactive mind map that you can expand, collapse and zoom. You can try it in the browser on the project site, or use it inside editors.
Integrations exist for VS Code and Open VSX, Vim and Neovim, and Emacs, plus an MCP server for AI tools. It suits people who already write notes or outlines in Markdown and want a visual view without redrawing anything.
Strengths
- Mind maps come straight from ordinary Markdown
- Interactive output with collapsible branches
- Editor integrations for VS Code, Vim and Emacs
Limitations
- Layout follows the outline structure with little manual control
