About MarkText
MarkText renders Markdown live in place: type `# Heading` and it becomes a heading, without a split preview pane or leftover syntax characters. The interface is deliberately plain so there is nothing between you and the writing.
It supports CommonMark and GitHub Flavored Markdown plus selective Pandoc Markdown, with KaTeX maths, front matter and emoji. It exports to HTML and PDF, offers several themes including Cadmium Light and Material Dark, and has source code, typewriter and focus editing modes.
Development has been slow for some time; the last release was June 2026 after a long gap, and there is a long-standing backlog of issues.

- Exports to HTML and PDF, with several built-in themes
Limitations
- Development is slow, with long gaps between releases
- Electron, so it is heavy for a text editor
- No sync, no library and no plugin system
- Large documents can become sluggish to edit
