About MeshCentral
MeshCentral is a full computer management website that you host yourself. You run the server, create device groups, install a small agent on each computer, and a minute later those machines appear in the web interface with remote desktop, terminal and file management available in the browser.
It works over a local network or across the internet, which makes it a practical way to support family machines or manage a fleet without paying per seat for a commercial remote support product. It supports multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, IP filtering, TLS offloading, Let's Encrypt, reverse proxies and HashiCorp Vault.
It is genuinely a server application: installation, TLS and exposure to the internet are all your responsibility, and the documentation is extensive for that reason.
Strengths
- Full web-based remote desktop, terminal and file management with no client to install
- Self-hosted with no per-seat or per-device licensing
- Multi-factor authentication, single sign-on, IP filtering and Let's Encrypt support
- Installable from npm or Docker
Limitations
- You are running a server that is exposed to the internet; securing it is your job
- Installation and TLS configuration are real work
- The interface is dense and administrator-oriented
- Agent installation is required on every managed machine
