MicroCloud is a lightweight private cloud platform that you install with snaps and set up with microcloud init and microcloud join. It combines LXD for virtual machines and system containers, MicroCeph for storage and MicroOVN for networking.
It can run on a single node, though Canonical recommends at least three for high availability, and scales to clusters of around 50 nodes. It suits small sites, labs and teams that want clustered VMs without a large cloud stack.
Strengths
- Sets up a cluster with a few snap commands
- Combines compute, storage and networking
- Scales from one node to around 50
Limitations
- Three or more nodes recommended for high availability
- Built around the snap packaging system
