About MX Linux
MX Linux is a desktop-oriented Linux distribution built on Debian Stable, currently Debian 13 "trixie". It uses core components from antiX and adds software created or packaged by the MX community. The project focuses on stability, performance and ease of use.
It is a joint effort of the antiX and former MEPIS communities. The name combines the M from MEPIS with the X from antiX. It suits people who want a Debian base with a ready-to-use desktop that stays responsive on modest hardware.
Strengths
- Built on Debian Stable, currently Debian 13 trixie
- Adds antiX components and tools packaged by the MX community
- Aims to stay responsive on modest hardware
Limitations
- Replaces or sits alongside your current operating system, so installing it takes more effort than an app
- Follows Debian Stable, so software versions can lag behind rolling distributions
