About Nerd Fonts
Nerd Fonts takes popular programming fonts such as Hack and Source Code Pro and adds a large set of extra glyphs to them. The project lists more than 70 patched fonts and over 10,000 icons, drawn from collections including Font Awesome, Octicons, Material Design Icons, VS Code Codicons, Powerline extra symbols, weather icons and font logos.
Terminal prompts and tools such as Powerlevel9k, colorls, lsd, vim-devicons and Oh My Fish use these glyphs to draw icons in a terminal. A font patcher script is also available for adding the glyphs to a font you already use.
Strengths
- More than 70 programming fonts already patched
- Over 10,000 icons from several well-known glyph sets
- Font patcher for adding the icons to other fonts
- Widely used by terminal prompts and file listing tools
Limitations
- Icons only show up in tools and prompts written to use them
- Patched fonts are large because of the added glyphs
