About OpenBSD
OpenBSD is a 4.4BSD-based Unix-like operating system built by volunteers. The project puts its effort into portability, standardization, correctness, proactive security and integrated cryptography, and it is the origin of OpenSSH.
The project reports only two remote holes in the default install over a long period. OpenBSD 7.9, the 60th release, came out on May 19, 2026. It suits people building firewalls, routers and servers, and anyone who wants a conservative, well-documented Unix system.

- Integrated cryptography and the home of OpenSSH
- Runs on many hardware platforms
- Regular releases
