About OSRM
OSRM (Open Source Routing Machine) imports OpenStreetMap data and answers shortest path queries on road networks. It handles continental-sized networks within milliseconds and supports car, bicycle and walking modes, which can be customised through profiles.
It runs as a backend service that you host yourself, so it suits developers and organisations who want their own routing server instead of a commercial directions API. Setup and profile tuning require some familiarity with the command line and OSM data.
