About pass
pass stores each password as a GPG-encrypted file in a directory tree, optionally versioned with Git, and manipulates them with ordinary shell commands. Because the storage format is just files, it composes with scripts, dmenu launchers, browser extensions and mobile clients.
Strengths
- Storage is plain encrypted files, so scripting and syncing are trivial
- Git integration gives full history of every secret
Limitations
- Filenames are not encrypted, so the structure of your vault is visible
- Requires GPG key management, which is the hardest part for most people
