About pint
pint checks Prometheus rule files in CI, during ad hoc linting, or continuously in watch mode. Some checks run offline using the rules themselves; others query a Prometheus server for information such as configuration and metric metadata.
It can report findings as pull request comments on supported source control platforms and expose problems as Prometheus metrics in watch mode. Cloudflare says it is designed for Prometheus and does not plan support for other partially compatible services.
Strengths
- CI, ad hoc, and continuous watch modes
- Can check rules against a Prometheus server
- Exports detected problems as Prometheus metrics
Limitations
- Designed for Prometheus, with no planned support for partially compatible services
- Many checks require a running Prometheus server
