About plugdata

plugdata is a patching environment built on Pure Data with a redesigned interface. You build audio systems by placing objects on a canvas and connecting them with cables, then hear the result immediately. It suits synth and effect design, prototyping, and teaching digital audio.

It ships with the ELSE, Cyclone and Gem libraries, so Max users will find familiar objects. Patches can run in the standalone app, inside a DAW as a VST3, AU, CLAP or LV2 plugin, or on embedded hardware such as Daisy through Heavy/hvcc code export.

Strengths

  • Runs standalone or as a VST3, AU, CLAP or LV2 plugin
  • Bundles ELSE, Cyclone and Gem libraries
  • Code export for embedded hardware such as Daisy
  • No account required

Limitations

  • Visual patching has a learning curve for newcomers to Pure Data
  • Some Pure Data externals may need checking for compatibility
