About Porteus
Porteus is a complete Linux operating system designed to boot from CD, USB flash drive, hard drive or other bootable media. The image is under 300 MB and the project says it boots in about 15 seconds on a modern PC. Software is added through Porteus modules rather than a conventional install.
There are 32-bit and 64-bit builds, desktop editions with KDE or Xfce, and a separate Kiosk Edition. It suits people who want a portable Linux system on a stick or a quick-starting setup for older hardware.
