About PureOS
PureOS is a Linux operating system from Purism made entirely of free software, so its source can be studied, shared and adapted. It is built for convergence: the same desktop system is scaled down to run on a phone, including Purism's Librem devices.
Version 11 is the current release, described as a more stable foundation than earlier versions. The download is free; Purism offers optional monthly subscriptions to fund development. A wiki, bug tracker and source code are linked from the site.
Strengths
- Made entirely of free software and fully auditable
- Same system runs on laptops and Librem phones
- Public source code, wiki and bug tracker
Limitations
- Fully free software policy can limit hardware support
- Closely tied to Purism's own devices
