About qpdf

qpdf inspects and rewrites the structure of PDF files without changing their visible content, handling linearisation, encryption and decryption, splitting, merging, JSON output of the document structure and repair of damaged files. It does not render pages or extract text.

Strengths

  • Rewrites PDF structure losslessly, which makes it ideal in pipelines
  • Can dump and rebuild a PDF as JSON for scripted editing

Limitations

  • No rendering or text extraction; those need other tools
  • Command line only
