About Roaming Guard
Roaming Guard compares the connected mobile operator with a customizable MCC/MNC allowlist or denylist. When it detects an unwanted operator, it can show a warning or use a local VPN service to drop traffic.
Android allows only one active VPN at a time, and hotspot traffic bypasses this filter. System apps may also bypass it, and DNS or NTP traffic may leak outside the VPN.
Strengths
- Customizable operator allowlist and denylist
- Can warn or filter traffic on unwanted networks
- Includes a predefined EU/EEA allowlist
Limitations
- Uses Android's VPN slot, which conflicts with another VPN
- Hotspot traffic is not filtered
- Some system, DNS, and NTP traffic may bypass filtering
