About Sa11y

Sa11y is an accessibility quality assurance assistant made for content authors. It runs on the page itself, marks problems such as missing alternative text or poor heading structure, and shows a tooltip explaining how to fix each one. It is not a full code analysis tool and not an accessibility overlay.

It was built for Toronto Metropolitan University's content management system and made open source in 2020. Site owners add it as a JavaScript plugin with over 80 checks, customisable rules and Shadow DOM support, and integrations exist for Joomla and Redaxo. It collects no personal data.
