About sing-box
sing-box is a single binary that implements a long list of proxy and tunnel protocols, both as a client and a server, with a routing engine that decides per-connection which outbound to use based on domain, IP, process or geographic rules.
That combination is what it is for: routing some traffic through a VPN, some through a proxy and some directly, all from one configuration file, rather than running three tools. It is the successor to the SagerNet project's earlier work and is widely used in places where circumvention protocols are necessary.
Configuration is JSON and genuinely complex, and the documentation assumes you already understand the protocols you are combining. There are builds for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android.
Strengths
- One binary covering WireGuard, Shadowsocks, VMess, Trojan, Hysteria and more
- A routing engine that picks an outbound per connection by domain, IP or process
- Works as both client and server for most of the protocols it supports
- Builds for Windows, macOS, Linux and Android
Limitations
- JSON configuration that is genuinely complex to write correctly
- Documentation assumes you already know the protocols involved
- No graphical interface in the core project
- Much of the community discussion is in Chinese
