About Stretto

Stretto is a music player that runs in the browser. Each track in your library is backed by a video or song from YouTube or SoundCloud, and a companion Chrome extension downloads the tracks to your browser. You can import playlists from Spotify, discover music through iTunes and Spotify charts, search iTunes to add tracks, fetch lyrics automatically and sync your library between machines.

It can be used at the hosted site or self-hosted with Docker Compose and MongoDB. On Android it works as a progressive web app through Kiwi Browser.

Strengths

  • Imports playlists from Spotify
  • Library sync between machines
  • Automatic lyrics and chart-based discovery
  • Can be used hosted or self-hosted

Limitations

  • Relies on a companion Chrome extension for downloading tracks
  • Depends on YouTube and SoundCloud as sources
  • Self-hosting needs Node.js and MongoDB
