The Unity CLI installs and manages Unity Editors and modules from the command line, and can open projects from a terminal. The Unity Hub installs it automatically, but it can also be installed, updated and run as a standalone binary without the Hub desktop application.
It is aimed at scripts, automation and CI pipelines, and its reference documents commands, output formats and exit codes. Controlling the Unity Editor itself requires the Unity pipeline package. The tool is marked experimental, so features may change.
Strengths
- Installs Editors and modules without the Hub GUI
- Suited to CI pipelines and scripts
- Documented output formats and exit codes
Limitations
- Experimental, so commands may change
- Editor control needs the separate pipeline package
