About W3C CSS Validation Service

The W3C CSS Validation Service checks Cascading Style Sheets, on their own or inside (X)HTML documents. You can validate by URL, by uploading a file or by pasting CSS directly.

Options let you choose a profile such as CSS level 1, 2, 2.1, 3 or CSS 3 with SVG, a target medium such as screen or print, how many warnings to show and how vendor extensions are treated. A download page is also provided for running the validator yourself.

Strengths

  • Validate by URL, file upload or direct input
  • Selectable CSS profile, medium and warning level
  • Downloadable for local use

Limitations

  • Reports spec conformance, not how browsers actually render the styles
  • Newer CSS features and vendor prefixes can produce warnings
