About GNU Wget2
Wget2 rewrites GNU Wget around a multi-threaded core with HTTP/2, parallel connections, If-Modified-Since handling, brotli and zstd compression and Metalink support, while keeping the familiar command line. It is aimed at recursive downloads and mirroring.
Strengths
- Parallel connections and HTTP/2 make recursive mirroring much faster
- Keeps Wget's command line, so existing habits carry over
Limitations
- Not a complete drop-in replacement; some Wget options are missing
- Packaged separately from wget, so it is not installed by default
